Welcome!

Welcome to After 50 Travel!

We started on this blog a few years ago but kind of set it to the side during the pandemic. Unlike some, we took the warnings seriously. As a result only one of the family members caught Covid and this was because one of our twins joined the Navy and was in boot camp. While there, a young man in the next bed began having seizures and our son rushed to help him. It turns out the seizures were due to Covid and our son tested positive a few days later. However, he had his first shot and never developed symptoms.

Regardless, we have to be cautious because many of our relatives have immune system issues and we don’t want to pass anything to them.

So, we decided we could still travel, not by airplane, and as long as we are careful we could avoid the virus.

And we have.

So, rather than grabbing a flight to Mexico, Jamaica, or other destinations, we bought a new Subaru Outback Wilderness edition (have you tried buying a new car?) and began driving to destinations.

We have made a number of trips to the Galveston, Texas area, a couple of trips to Florida to see our son, many trips to see family in Louisiana and in the Austin area, as well as other day trips.

We have also taken up some new hobbies, rock hounding, fossil hunting, and metal detecting among others. These also provide a way to travel a bit and, if we are lucky, we will find something worth enough to pay for the trip.

From this point on we will be posting reviews of various trips as well as particularly interesting places or a place that has good food.

Feel free to support this website by clicking on ads, on products we review/offer and we even accept donations through PayPal and Vimeo by clicking on these buttons.

Any products advertised or reviewed likely make us a few pennies if you make the purchase using our link.

Finally, if there is anything you would like for us to review or visit, please let us know. We are in the process of setting up a YouTube account to show videos we shoot and don’t be surprised if there is a podcast available soon.

Whether you are over 50 or not we hope you’ll be a fan of the site. Many places we will discuss are actually places we have visited before when we were younger.

Happy travels!
